The Ballan Community House is a Learn Local organisation offering a range of education and training programs designed to meet your learning needs.

What's on offer at the Community House

Along with our large variety of courses the Ballan & District Community House also offers and range of facilities and services.

Services on offer include:

General Information:

The Community House provides a range of information of general interest and about services available to residents of Ballan and District. 

 Included at the office is an array of brochures and information sheets on regarding health and welfare and related available services.

Membership:

To become a member, contact the office for an application form.  Annual membership costs $11.00 and runs until the end of the current year.  Renewals are due at the start of each year.  Membership entitles you to become more involved in the organisation and you may wish to nominate to participate as a committee member.  The rules of the organisation are available for you to read - ask at the office.

Equipment Hire:

The Ballan & District Community House has computers, data projectors, a projector screen and various other items which may be made available for hire to community groups.

Room Use

The Mechanics' Institute Reserve Building has comfortable, well equipped facilities suitable for a range of private events and community group activities.  We encourage local not for profit groups to make use of these facilities; for bookings please email bookings@bchvic.org.au or phone on 5368 1934 to discuss your group's requirements.  

Internet access:

Internet Access is available during office hours Mon-Thurs 9am to 3pm and Fri 9-12 noon.

Rates: $5 per hour | Member rates: $2.50 per hour

Photocopying:

A4: 20c per copy / 30c double sided.
Colour printing also available.  Price on application 

Laminating:

$2.00 per A4
$4.00 per A3

Service is only available during office hours Mon to Thur 9am - 3pm, Fri 9am to 12 noon

Book Exchange:

The Community House offers free loan of books to its members. 

The Moorabool Shire Library also operates from the front of the Mechanics Institute and is open 

Weds: 9.30 am - 1 pm, | Fri: 9.30 am - 5 pm and  | Sat: 9.30 am - 1 pm.

Film Society Membership

$75 for 10 films

Full membership to the Ballan Film Society provides

  • entry to the annual program of 10 films
  • to be able to bring a different guest along each week
  • membership to the BDCH
  • discounts on BDCH programs & activities

Applications can be submitted to the office of the Ballan & District Community House or emailed to  ballanfilmsociety@bchvic.org.au. 

Please note that to finalize the application form will require

  • the applicant to be nominated by a current financial member of the BDCH or Ballan Film Society
  • approval of the board, and
  • some form of ID to be sighted by BDCH staff

Film Voucher

$30 for 3 films

An alternate to full membership is to purchase a voucher which allows you to choose the films you wish to see. These are available at the door or from the Community House office
