Become a Volunteer

Volunteers are Very Important

There are many different aspects to the work of the Ballan & District Community House and Adult Education Centre, and many tasks are undertaken by volunteers. Without this assistance, it would not be possible to offer the wide range of activities and courses on offer.

Several of the classes run at the Community House are provided by volunteers and volunteers run the monthly Men's Group barbeque at the IGA on the fourth Saturday of the month and volunteers help stock the library of books and jigsaws which is available to members to borrow.

We also have volunteers who give their time to help in the office by answering phone queries and by doing graphic design, typing, photocopying and related tasks. Each volunteer is encouraged to become involved in the mission of the Community House to reduce social isolation and to increase the skills and experience of the residents in the district.  All volunteers have rights and appropriate responsibilities and are supported in obtaining appropriate training.

Please phone 5368 1934 to arrange a time to come in to the Community House to discuss how you might contribute to the work of the organisation in a way that best suits your interests, skills and experience.

Volunteer Skills Training

  • Are you keen to develop your office skills?
  • Would you like to help a not-for-profit organisation?
  • Would you like to better prepare yourself for work?

The Ballan & District Community House regularly runs a Volunteer Skills course which involves 40 hours of study (4 hours per week for 10 weeks).

In the course, volunteers will develop team work ability in a busy office, learn reception skills, and brush up on telephone and computer skills.

Not only will you improve your employability skills, you will receive a Certificate of Participation to add to your resume - and you will have met many friends along the way!

A position in this course requires your time and commitment. If you are the right person for the course, you may enrol for free!!!

Phone us on 5368 1934 to see if this position could be right for you.

The Party - PosterThe Party - PosterThe Party (1968)

A clerical mistake results in a bumbling Indian film star being invited to an exclusive Hollywood party instead of being fired.

To me, “The Party” is the quintessential Sellers movie and one of the most daring films of Edwards. A masterpiece. (Henrik Sylow)
