The Ballan Community House is a Learn Local organisation offering a range of education and training programs designed to meet your learning needs.

Become a Member

Anyone can enroll to participate in the classes and activities at the Ballan & District Community House. Our participants enjoy the wide ranging program we offer. We offer classes and group activities at very low charges so that we can cover costs. You may well have taken part in a class, but may not yet be a member of the Community House.

We are now encouraging everyone who enrolls to take an extra step to support the Community House by becoming a MEMBER!

Membership: To join our classes, you do not have to be a member of the Community House but if you would also like to support us by paying a small annual membership fee, we would welcome your application to become a member of Your Community Centre

By becoming a member of the House, you can:

  • Halve the cost of computer access at the Community House;
  • Borrow books from our library at no charge;
  • Become involved in the activities of the Community House;
  • Vote at the Annual General Meeting (held in May each year), and
  • We offer members a $5 DISCOUNT on all term course fees over $75 if no other discounts have been applied!

Membership is renewable annually and covers the period January to December for $11.00 GST incl - Renewal  date 25th January of each year

To become a member, please print and complete the application form (download a copy of the application form) and call into the Ballan office, 143 Inglis St (or from Steiglitz St Carpark). Office hours are Mon-Thurs 9am-3pm; Fri 9-12. Please bring some form of photo ID such as your Drivers Licence. 

If you would like to pay by direct deposit instead of cheque, please make your payment to:

Note your full surname and the initial of your first name and the word MEM in the description box, then send an email to info@bchvic.org.au with a copy of your bank receipt, current ID and completed application form.


The Board of Management

The Ballan & District Community House is a Not-for-profit incorporated association with charity status. It has an active member base and an elected Board of Management. Each year at the Annual General Meeting a partial election of Board Members takes place. Board members are drawn from the member base. The Board is responsible for the Governance and strategic planning of the Ballan and District Community House and for the Mechanics' Institute Reserve.

Film Society Membership

$75 for 10 films

Full membership to the Ballan Film Society provides

  • entry to the annual program of 10 films
  • to be able to bring a different guest along each week
  • membership to the BDCH
  • discounts on BDCH programs & activities

Applications can be submitted to the office of the Ballan & District Community House or emailed to  ballanfilmsociety@bchvic.org.au. 

Please note that to finalize the application form will require

  • the applicant to be nominated by a current financial member of the BDCH or Ballan Film Society
  • approval of the board, and
  • some form of ID to be sighted by BDCH staff

Film Voucher

$30 for 3 films

An alternate to full membership is to purchase a voucher which allows you to choose the films you wish to see. These are available at the door or from the Community House office
